Lovecraft was, if we’re honest, a huge racist – even in the 1920s when this was something of an achievement because being just quite racist was the norm for America, where he lived. It also does a good job of subverting many of H.P Lovecraft’s problems. The atmosphere is subtle but effective, and I found that existing in this world started to feel oppressive and tense. Many of the inhabitants either can’t or won’t leave, as the city is slowly overcome by an unsettling pressure. There’s no reason any sane person would choose to loiter here, and as a result it’s a fascinating portrait of ruin. The half-submerged city of Oakmont is being torn apart by colossal storms while strange creatures, known as Wylebeasts, skitter and slime in the darkness. The Sinking City’s biggest success is the mood it creates. These references come in thick and fast, and they go a long way in establishing the world - and a tone - in the opening hours. Meeting a man clad in a yellow suit in the opening moments, you share a nod before soon after being introduced to Robert Throgmorten, who resembles Lovecraft’s own Arthur Jermyn in all but name. Indeed, fans of his work will find plenty of small references. The Sinking City seeks, primarily, to link up the gameplay of Frogwares’ own Sherlock Holmes franchise with the writings of acclaimed (and controversial) horror writer H.P Lovecraft, trying to play with the world of cosmic horror he created. Weapons from the 1920s with which you can attack and kill the creatures that transform your world into a living nightmare.It’s hard not to appreciate what The Sinking City, Frogwares’ latest detective-’em-up, has tried to achieve, even if it flubs the execution. The most interesting thing is that there are high replay value thanks to an open investigation system: Each specific investigation can be resolved in several different ways, with many possible endings, depending on your actions. A world so wide and mysterious that can be explored either on foot or by boat if you are a fan of sailing or in a diving suit if you enjoy the unseen underwater universe An unimaginable atmosphere and storyline inspired by the universe of H.P.

Moreover, the justifications we find are mainly trying to relieve us from the present suffering, but do not take into account the unfolding of future events. The trap here is that justifications can offer a nice feeling of reward at the moment but can be unreliable in the long run. Usually, thinkers tend to over and overthink things in detail and ruminate in their minds trying to find explanations, answers, understanding of the facts or at least mere justifications. If you are a thinker and an inquisitive person, this mission is best suited for you. The story is seductive and addictive, and it keeps you engaged and inaction because it challenges your mind to find answers at every step of the way. This is a game of adventure and investigation that wishes to unleash the criminal mind inside of you but in a good way, on the side, that fight the evil. The investigations are of course impeded by the supernatural forces that rule the city and so you are the one that has to think of an answer for the mystery and at the same time fight the evil that surrounds you. Something out of the ordinary has possessed their minds and bodies and you have no clue what could have happened. Lovecraft, the master of Horror invites you to investigate what has happened with the city of Oakmont and the people that live there. A new world inspired by the universe of H.P. The Sinking City releases the detective inside you and is set for an unbelievable adventure.
